David Garvin-Daniels is a Steinway and Yamaha qualified and approved piano technician, with 25+ years experience, based in the North West of England, working across homes, schools, and concert venues.
Hello, I’m David, a full-time piano tuner, teacher, and technician with over 25 years professional experience. After many wonderful years as a concert piano technician, working with many fantastic artists and venues, I’ve recently settled in Cleveleys, to mainly focus on local domestic tunings anywhere between Blackpool and Manchester, and teaching piano lessons at The Piano School - Cleveleys. This setup allows me to spend more quality time at home with my family, including my two sons, my classic car, and happily practicing the piano myself!
I qualified in Piano Tuning and Instrument Technology at Newark and Sherwood College in 2000 and have been an approved Yamaha and Steinway technician since 2014. Since 2020, I completed Yamaha's YEPTA courses for upright and grand pianos, while regularly working as a tuner at Yamaha’s Milton Keynes Distribution Center.
Over the years, I’ve tuned and maintained pianos in homes, schools, including Chetham’s and RNCM - recording studios, and for renowned Yamaha and Steinway artists. I’ve prepared concert pianos for Stephen Hough, Angela Hewitt, Eric Lu, and Martin Roscoe, as well as for competitions such as Leeds and James Mottram International Piano Competitions - including on the set of Coronation Street! Additionally, I’ve tuned for artists, including Jools Holland, Norah Jones, and Jacob Collier.
As a graduate of Chetham’s School of Music, a pianist and teacher of a very high standard, I feel I’m at an advantage to understand what professional musicians, and students are looking for in a piano, both from a pianist’s and a technician’s perspective. This unique combination gives me the ability to offer practical, knowledgeable advice when you're considering purchasing a new instrument. I'd be delighted to accompany you, evaluate instruments, or even speak with dealerships on your behalf or alongside you to help you find the best instrument for your needs.
When I’m not tuning or teaching, I enjoy restoring classic cars, woodturning, and working with metal on my lathe to make high quality piano tools mostly. At home, we take pride in keeping our 120-year-old semi-concert grand Scheidmayer in top shape for duets - it’s a real passion of ours, especially when we're not out and about in our Morris Traveller!
